Images the layers of the rectal wall. Used for evaluation of rectal polyps, staging of rectal tumors and also evaluation of enlarged lymph nodes. Is also used for follow-up surveillance after treatment for rectal tumors or advanced polyps. Advanced 3-D Ultrasound technology is also available. This is often performed under sedation at a surgery center as the procedure can be uncomfortable when performed in the office.
